Name of the Upazila: Gopalpur is an upazila in the north of Tangail district. It was formed as Gopalpur Police Station in 1205 and it was turned into an upazila in 1. There are two types of views on Gopalpur nomenclature. First, during the Mughal rule, an Afghan saint called Gopal Shah came here and built a place. Gopalpur is named after this Gopal Shah. Gopalpur, on the other hand, was a Hindu-dominated town in the year 5, and in this place a man named Gopal Chakraborty came and settled down from the king of Natore. Gopalpur is named after this place.
